Insight
The pharmacy needed an advertising system built from scratch for a category governed by strict promotional rules.
The commercial goal centred on prescription products, but direct promotion was constrained. Launching only high-intent performance campaigns would leave too little eligible inventory and too little brand familiarity.
Over-the-counter products offered a compliant route to first purchase, yet they needed to support rather than distract from longer-term prescription demand.
Shopping campaigns also showed potential, although they were unlikely to become the sole revenue engine.
The strategy had to create immediate, compliant sales while building confidence in a healthcare brand customers might return to later.
This reframed the problem:
The work was not about finding a loophole for prescription advertising. It was about designing a compliant path from first product purchase to future brand preference.
Execution
We built a regulated acquisition and brand system with different roles for OTC, Shopping and media activity.
Eligible over-the-counter products became the entry point for Google Ads and product-led campaigns, giving users a practical reason to experience the service.
Search structure focused on commercially relevant health needs while excluding inappropriate or restricted queries.
Shopping Ads were established successfully and given a defined supporting role based on their actual revenue contribution.
A broader brand-building media layer communicated reliability, convenience and service value beyond individual products.
Retargeting and repeat exposure created future purchase readiness without making restricted promotional claims.
Creative and landing pages were reviewed around both regulatory suitability and user confidence.
Revenue analysis separated primary growth drivers from channels that contributed a valuable but smaller share.
The result was a balanced medical marketing system:
- OTC advertising → acquire customers compliantly
- Brand media → build trust for later healthcare needs
- Shopping Ads → add efficient incremental revenue
The channel mix could grow without depending on advertising formats that were unavailable to the prescription category.
Results
The new acquisition model delivered measurable revenue while strengthening future demand.
- Orders and subscriptions increased by 56%
- 7.8x return on advertising spend achieved
- Click-through rate finished 26% above the industry benchmark
Shopping Ads secured a meaningful supporting share of revenue without being mistaken for the primary engine.
The pharmacy gained a compliant framework that connected short-term ecommerce performance with long-term healthcare brand growth.
