Insight

The brief appeared simple: launch paid advertising for a proven children’s product. The commercial reality was less obvious.

There were two audiences in every purchase. Children created interest, but parents controlled the transaction. Treating either group as the only buyer weakened the route from attention to sale. Creative evidence was equally mixed: simple, low-cost imagery could produce efficient sales volume, while more engaging video often attracted stronger attention and a higher order value.

The presumed motivation also needed to be challenged. Education had been treated as the primary reason to buy, but campaign behaviour showed that leisure, discovery and the experience of watching nature unfold were more powerful.

This reframed the problem:

The strategy did not need to choose between children and parents. It needed to assign each audience a different role in the buying journey.

Execution

We built an ecommerce advertising structure around that dual-audience reality. Paid-social creative created excitement for children and made the experience easy for parents to understand, while Google Ads captured existing product and gifting demand.

Testing separated three variables that had previously been blended together:

  • Audience: child-led discovery versus parent-led purchase intent
  • Creative: efficient static imagery versus richer video demonstrations
  • Motivation: leisure and shared experience versus education as a supporting benefit

Creative was judged on more than click-through rate. We compared sales volume, acquisition cost and average order value, allowing inexpensive imagery and engaging video to perform distinct jobs rather than forcing one format to win every metric.

The positioning then moved from educational obligation towards accessible leisure, while preserving learning as credible added value.

Results

The resulting Google Ads and Meta Ads system aligned the people creating demand with the people completing the purchase.

  • 46,000+ purchases generated
  • 42x return on advertising spend achieved

More importantly, the business gained a repeatable way to evaluate audience roles, creative formats and product motivation together—turning an ambiguous launch brief into a scalable ecommerce growth engine.

Strategic Takeaway

"The strongest ecommerce advertising strategy follows the real buying dynamic: who discovers, who decides and why the product matters."
